Fertility Preservation

What is Fertility Preservation?
Fertility Preservation is a medical option that allows women and men to maintain their ability to have children in the future. This process involves freezing eggs, sperm or embryos, ensuring that they are available when you decide to use them, whether due to personal, professional or medical reasons.

What is the process like?
1. Egg Preservation (Women)
It involves ovarian stimulation to produce multiple mature eggs, which are then removed through a minimally invasive procedure and frozen for future use.
2. Sperm Preservation (Men)
A semen sample is collected and frozen and stored to be used in future fertility treatment.
3. Preservation of Embryos (Couples)
The woman's eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and the resulting embryos are frozen to be transferred to the uterus later.

- Medical treatments that affect fertility: Such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgeries that can damage reproductive organs.
- Postponing motherhood or fatherhood: People who want to have children in the future but are not ready to do so yet.
- Medical conditions: Such as endometriosis or genetic diseases that could affect the quality of eggs or sperm.

Answers to Your Questions
Eggs, sperm and embryos can be kept safely frozen for many years, without significant loss of viability. Studies have shown that genetic material can be viable even after more than 10 years of storage.
Success rates depend on several factors, such as the age at the time of freezing and the quality of the genetic material. In general, the success rate of frozen eggs and sperm is comparable to that of fresh ones, especially if they were frozen before the age of 35 for women.
Egg retrieval involves a minimally invasive procedure that is performed under sedation. Most patients report mild or moderate discomfort after the procedure, similar to menstrual cramps, but recovery is rapid.
If you decide not to use the frozen genetic material, you can choose to discard it, donate it to research, or donate it to other people seeking fertility treatments. These decisions must be made carefully and after adequate advice.
All eggs, sperm and embryos are stored in secure and controlled facilities. Only the patient (and their partner, if applicable) has access to the information and genetic material, ensuring the privacy and security of the entire process.
